the relevance for my introduction. I like to introduce myself in terms of

If you are reading this page here at this hour, odds are that you
might be unhappy with the results in the gym, and this certainly means you are
in one or more of the situations mentioned below:
I started off as a fat person (check out my whole story here). I have always hated not knowing the proper
way of doing things. Personal Training and for most part Nutrition too does have
free entry and exit which dumps a lot of sub-standard grade professionals here.
Watching the guys with big bodies
train in the gym is often comical, and this includes your Desi gym trainer aka
Guruji and their Chelas.
Most of them are on anabolic drugs aka steroids. They have no idea what is
going inside their bodies, or whatever they are ingesting does what inside. The
end to goals of muscle gain and fat loss is often in terms of supplements or
steroids (Take creatine for bulking, fat burners for cutting), and training is
standard single body part per day split, which is used only by pro
bodybuilders.
Many a time they recommend anabolic
steroids to young unaware kids which have ugly side effects. You can do a Google
search on the same, they are everywhere:
Cirrhosis of Liver, Development
of Breast Tissue in Males and Erection and Fertility problems (sometimes
irreversible) being the most common. I have seen many a trainers myself who had
to get a stent installed in their body since steroids also cause hardening of
the body.
Anabolic steroids can build muscle and
strength to a certain limit by directly stimulating your muscles to grow,
without any stimulation required from proper training. This is why some
trainers insist so hard for you to use them. Their training and nutrition knowledge is piss
poor and they make you use steroids to hide that fact. They are simply unable
to make a guy gain muscle and lose fat without use of dangerous drugs. Most of
their routines are copied from bodybuilding.com which are used by Elite
Athletes who are on massive doses of drugs themselves.
To look like a pro you do not train like a pro. That’s the way they
train but that’s not what got them there. Certainly most trainers do not
understand.
And then there is a new upcoming breed
of so educated “Personal Trainers” who decide to take up a weekend course in PT
certification when they couldn’t land a job from their mainstream education (supposing
they have any), and someone told them that there was “Scope” in fitness and it
certainly paid more than working as a security guard or a bouncer.
Now coming to Nutritionists, this one industry is not taken seriously in our
country. It is a part of heathcare and medical industry and just not treated
that way, allowing free entry and exit to all.
How judgmental it might sound, most of these people have zero
passion for what they are doing and they are here just because they couldn’t be
at a better place or just trying to make a quick buck. Sadly Personal Training
is not regarded as very privileged by the mainstream public.
A large number of dietitians start off
as young girls who do a course as a summer vacation course between their graduation
and post-graduation degrees while waiting for a suitable groom to get married,
or an add-on to just make their home science degree marketable.
If only they paid attention at dietetics school, they would know that diets
such as GM diet, Chocolate Diet, Banana Diet, Ice Crème diet are all fad diets
which do make the client lose weight but do not come without harmful effects.
On a typical fad diet your metabolism
slows down, you lose strength and muscle which helps you do everyday tasks with
a breeze. Not surprisingly you gain all of it back, and more than before.
Since I live in Delhi, I have heard of
a popular dietitian I do not wish to name. Popular because he makes people
think that it is something magical to eat burgers and noodles on daily basis
and still be able to lose fat. That doesn’t take a genius, to again, realize
that when total calories are kept under control, you can lose weight on
anything you are eating. But it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know that a
Mango is much healthier than a Burger.
Another breed of dietitians make you
forcibly eat foods you do not like, and otherwise they would dismiss you as
“Un-Motivated” or “Un-Dedicated”. Their diets could cost someone a bomb, like
20 thousand rupees a month because they are full of exotic foods which are
neither easily available nor very tasty.
A bad dietitian makes your lifestyle fit into your diet. A good
dietitian makes your diet fit into your lifestyle.
Are these people really the
authorities you would trust with your body? Because the question here is not
just your muscles but also your long term health.

No matter how much one sucks at their
job, they still got living expenses to meet, with the basics being food, clothing,
and shelter. Everyone has places to be and people to meet. And all this
requires money.
Trainers and dietitians who often have no idea about what they are doing
without an in depth knowledge of their discipline often chalk out stupid
programs which are either too difficult to follow, or too absurd to follow, or
are simply ineffective, or all of them.
As with any other industry, the job doesn’t pay well for
sub-standard performers, and the promises by Amway, Herbalife and Adulterated
Supplements sales are just too lucrative.
If you knew how MLM Companies worked, you’d run away from any Amway or
herbalife agent you come across like you’d run away from the devil.
Since you have to trust your coach
completely on whatever they tell you to do and buy, top their ridiculously high
fees with all the useless supplements worth 20 thousand rupees on an average (sold at close to double the cost price from
substandard brands or adulterated) they will try to sell you which would
never ever work without an effective diet and workout.
Additionally since we are discussing
supplements, most of them are plain useless and use very strong manipulative
techniques to pry on your emotions and rip you off. Research is manipulated all
the time for marketing, and those researches are funded by supplement companies
themselves.
You can literally make research to prove eating your own poop as anabolic under
given circumstances. And that is the truth of whole supplement industry.
In our country the supplements are
usually imported as local manufacturers usually lack proper infrastructure to
manufacture good quality supplements. Hence, the prices are doubled by the time
they reach at a store near you.

Truth is, supplements are just an accessory to a program, and as the
name suggests they are just supplements or addition. There is nothing such as a
magic pill and you can have descent results with absolutely no supplements at
all and will NEVER EVER WORK without a proper customized diet and workout.
While I use them too, and I suggest them occasionally, I absolutely
believe that a program will work without them, and not the other way round.
When you do not get results as much as
you should be getting, your trainer or dietitian just turns a blank face. They
would give you one or more of these reasons (excuses):

You didn’t follow the program properly as I
told you to

I gave you an unrealistic program in the
first place which I copied from the internet, filled with untasty foods. Half
of the foods aren’t available with ease and I know you wouldn’t be able to
follow it. You get the blame, I get your money.

You didn’t spend the required amount of money
on supplements I told you to buy, so results are going to be sub-standard. You
get what you pay for.

I have no idea what I am doing and how
fat loss or muscle gain works. I try to compensate for lack of my knowledge by
making you spend money on useless supplements on which I also get a hefty
commission. Anyways thanks for the money, sucker!

You’re Trying to do it all by Yourself
You might
think why would you need a personal trainer and dietitian like me when you
could just dig up online sources to get your information which is all there.
Just type www dot bodybuilding dot com and BOOM here is the world’s largest fitness resource right
at your fingertips.
It doesn’t
work out this way and this is why you are here on this page. You can try not
going to a doctor and search up on WebMD but its like a rabbit hole for the
unaware and you will end up self-diagnosing yourself with cancer.
If you are here out of curiosity, or whatever
is the reason here is the thing:
In an ideal
world, you could be a superhuman and you could make and fix your furniture, fix
your car, paint your walls, change your bathroom fittings, be your own
chartered accountant, lawyer, doctor (many people are their own doctors LOL, NOT RECOMMENDED), and so on.
How alluring and satisfying it might seem to
imagine to be able to do it all yourself. Sad truth is you would never live
long enough to learn it all. And you will never be able to match the excellence
of someone who has been spending all their life in that very profession. To sum up in short, having the tools doesn’t mean you can build the Eiffel Tower.
Getting a bunch of information at once (consider reading a book or watching a
few dozen YouTube videos) ironically makes learning and doing much more
difficult - because none of the information is organized or customized to your
personal goals, body type and needs, resulting in uncertainty of the methods
and a half-assed effort in the gym and kitchen. Generic programming created for
the masses will produce zero results or generic results at best.
There would be no personal trainers and
dietitians like me if YouTube and your 90% of your gym training authorities
could suffice. You would have to be in my place doing all your research for
years from various sources and spending lakhs of rupees and hundreds and
thousands of hours reading different sources before you will be able to chalk
out a result producing program yourself. There are hundreds of dieting and
training methods and not all would work for you.

Trust me, nothing motivates like results do.
You can keep banging your (hardowork) head into a wall
(no results) for a month, or two or three, but not more.

Moreover many a
time trainers/instructors leave a lot of people with bad experience. And to be
honest this has been my biggest challenge in this industry; that making people
believe that not all trainers are equal.
Your first session in the gym should be to assess your
current fitness levels, comfort zone, your strengths and weaknesses and teach
you about different body movements. However, first session in the gym is turned
into a competition of how much torture can your body handle and next day you
wake up in pain, soreness and mental fog, and not willing to go to gym again.
Such people clearly do not understand what the difference
is between training a pro athlete and training a beginner who is intimidated by
the judgmental environment inside a gym.
Many people are forced to do exercises which are taxing
and sometimes beyond the fitness level and training capabilities at that time,
such as a pullup, failing which a trainer blames it again, on your motivation
etc.
Exercise can be
as addictive and pleasurable as Heroin due to release of natural mood enhancing
hormones, but what should be a pleasurable experience is quickly turned into a
negative experience by bad trainers.

Trainer of Your Choice
You got lucky and you did find a Trainer who suits all
your needs and promises results. However
he works at a gym not in your local vicinity and the gym
you are able to join is highly limited by the locus of the area you are able to
travel.
If you randomly walk up to a gym and ask them to assign a
trainer to you, he is not only going to be limited by the gym you happen to go
into, but also depending upon who has free training slots.
You might be travelling 10 kilometres a day to train with
the person of your choice however if you ever happen to shift to another city,
or cut your travelling hours, or move to a better equipped gym you will not be
able to train with them. Moreover you are also limited by their time slots. Your college or job doesn’t allow you
to be there at a time comfortable to your trainer and vice versa.
I train a lot of people outside of my district,
state, and even the country, who cannot ever fit a regular training program
with me. It cannot simply be a feasible idea.
And then there are personality match issues. You just cannot work with a trainer
who is known to produce results with others if your personalities aren’t meant
to get along together.
